BECOMING A MENTOR - WHAT TO EXPECT
TRAINING AND SUPPORT: all potential mentors will be thoroughly trained by Chapter2 and given ongoing support by a trained co-ordinator. No previous experience is required.
ASSESSMENT: all potential mentors will be interviewed for suitability and will need to complete a DBS check.
COMMITMENT: we ask all mentors to commit to at least 2 years and request that they meet with their mentee at least once a fortnight.
COMPANY OF MEN: all mentors are encouraged to mentor alongside other men and to participate in the quarterly activities provided by Chapter2.
WHAT IS MENTORING
Being a mentor is simply offering your presence consistently and unconditionally over the long term. It is primarily about showing up and remaining present in the life of a fatherless boy.
A mentor is not a coach or a counsellor but a friend.
At Chapter2 we believe in activity based mentoring and encourage our mentors to seek out fun activities that they and their mentee enjoy together. We also aim to match mentors and mentees together that already have similar interests. At least once a quarter we provide group fun activities for all mentors and mentees on the programme to participate in.
